SUMMARY:PROCESS:
DESCRIPTION:This March PROCESS x Parlour present: FLEX. As a panel discussion we will interrogate the effects of flexibility in the architecture profession in recognition of International Women’s day. This is an issue that addresses benefits for all and the future of the profession. \nPart-time work is still considered an obstacle to career progression and women occupy the majority of part-time roles or leave the industry if such arrangements are unavailable. The overwhelming lack of flexibility excludes many from the industry\, so how might we precipitate equal career development opportunities for those seeking flexible hours? \nHow can firms change their team dynamics to allow for more flexibility? What are the challenges experienced by a flexible office and the team members who support flexible workers? How might we redefine flexibility in the workplace to dismantle unhealthy\, yet contractual\, employment expectations? How might shifting office culture catalyse a profession to better support the many different manifestations of the architectural worker throughout their working lives? \nJoin us on March 4 at Loop Bar to address these questions and many more. \n

Narrated by scientist\, politician and environmental campaigner\, Mike Berwick\, this visually stunning and inspiring experience recounts one of the greatest ecological battles ever fought in Australia’s history when the Daintree came disastrously close to destruction. This immersive and emotional story highlights the need for a new generation of national laws. Because we need laws that protect life\, not allow it to be destroyed. \nA THIN BLACK LINE – VRTOV\nFor young Patima\, the war had always seemed a distant threat. But when the bombs reach her hometown\, she is forced to flee; leaving her father behind.\nThe bombing of Darwin in 1942 was the first and largest aerial attack on mainland Australia during the Second World War. As bombers strafed the lightly defended city\, nearly half the civilian population fled southwards in the belief a Japanese invasion was imminent. Amongst them was Indigenous filmmaker Douglas Watkin’s mother\, just five-years old at the time. An animated documentary in interactive real-time Virtual Reality\, A Thin Black Line invites the audience to step into a pivotal event in the history of one family\, and a nation\, as seen by a young child. Uku means to dive. Uku360º is a series of 360VR experiences that explores our intrinsic human relationship to the ocean and it’s inhabitants. As humans we have a deep subconscious connection to the ocean. Although it is a place we cannot breath\, it is a place many of us are drawn to for different reasons. It is time for us to switch off your mind and connect with some of the world’s most majestic animals. \nSAVE SYDNEY (Room Scale Experience – Helen Nias & Kelsey Shanahan\nOne of the problems with getting people to care about climate change is that we can’t immediately see the negative effects of our lifestyle choices. SAVE SYDNEY is an interactive room-scale VR game\, which simplifies the effects of climate change and sea level rise in order to show that our choices do make a difference to the future of the planet. The game a collaboration between Helen Nias and Design Director & Strategist Kelsey Shanahan. They developed SAVE SYDNEY during Academy Xi’s VR Design course (now Mixed Reality Design) which encouraged students to focus on intuitive\, ‘native-VR’ designs and seamless onboarding. \nMETAVENTS BETA SHOWCASE – Metavents\nMetavents have developed a platform that allows for remote\, real-time project planning using 3D VR visualisation and simulation. \nMore VR films showcased on the night.\n8:00 PM – 9:00 PM Panel + Q&A\n9:00 PM – 10:00 PM Virtual reality film showcase + networking \n\n

Afterwards\, there will be a panel discussion followed by drinks and networking. \nThis is a FREE event.\n_________________________________________________________________ \nWE’LL BE SCREENING THE FOLLOWING SHOWS \nANTISOCIAL \nANTISOCIAL is a sketch comedy version of Black Mirror from Goodall & Gallagher that takes aim at social media and modern technology. Making the point\, that there is nothing social about it and it could be the thing driving us all apart. \nTRAILER: https://www.facebook.com/GoodallandGallagher/videos/vl.2231481083842244/282759875908771/?type=1 \nFeedback \nFeedback is a five-part Melbourne based comedy about being young\, creative\, and riddled with self-doubt. It follows Edmund\, a suffering writer in self-exile from his comfortable family home and Levi\, a guitarist coming off a long bender to focus on his music. Lucy\, a nursing student at a crossroads and a concerned sister to Edmund\, often gets swept up in their dysfunctional orbit. Feedback wades into the murky waters of failure\, embarrassment and the fleeting satisfaction of trying. \nTRAILER: https://www.facebook.com/feedbackwebseries/videos/311881866200546/ \nWhat Could Go Wrong? \nJoin Triple J presenters Veronica and Lewis as they attempt to answer the age-old question of what could go wrong? -by revealing fifteen of Australia’s maddest\, craziest\, and excruciating real-life stories. In this innovative and experimental short-form documentary series\, tales of when things have gone horribly wrong are reimagined and reinterpreted in creative and unique ways. From genre mashups\, puppetry\, surreal animation\, satire and miniature model sets each episode tells a story using a completely different and often absurd style. Veronica and Lewis bring their own experience and comedy as they attempt to unpack the stories in What Could Go Wrong and discuss what we can learn (or not learn) about Australian life. \n___________________________________________________________________ \nMelbourne WebFest acknowledges that this event takes place on the traditional land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation\, to whom sovereignty has never been ceded\, and we pay our respects to their Elders past\, present\, and emerging. \nLOOP Project Space & Bar is a fully accessible ground floor venue with a wheelchair accessible toilet\, and an entrance door measuring 80cm. If you have any other accessibility needs please contact rachel@looponline.com.au. \nLOOP is a safe and inclusive space\, which means when entering the venue patrons agree to work against homophobia\, sexism\, racism\, transphobia\, ableism\, and other forms of oppressive behaviour. Please let the LOOP team know if this space isn’t upheld. \n\n

SUMMARY:Online Publication Launch: Writing in the Expanded Field
DESCRIPTION:Join us offsite\, at Loop Project Space & Bar\, for the launch of the online publication Writing in the Expanded Field – the final component of ACCA’s new writing program of the same name. \nThe publication will be launched by Max Delany\, ACCA’s Artistic Director\, and Lucinda Strahan\, writer and researcher at RMIT’s non/fictionLab. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM:\nComprising 14 writers\, the program took place alongside ACCA’s exhibition ‘Eva Rothschild: Kosmos’ 2018. Presented in partnership with RMIT The nonfictionlab and supported by Art+Australia\, Art Guide Australia and The Lifted Brow\, Writing in the Expanded Field explores new methodologies for art writing and criticism\, opening up writing to an ‘expanded field’ in which the encounter between writer and artwork\, and this engagement\, may be animated by various writing positions between the critical\, the personal and the imaginary. \nWriting in the Expanded Field compiles new writing by each of the writers\, their writing position\, as well as documentation of the forum. The publication follows a Public Forum which took place at ACCA in November 2018\, which became a score for this online publication. \nIMAGE: Chloe Martin\, ‘Chorus’\, Writing in the Expanded Field: A Public Forum\, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art\, Melbourne 2018. SUMMARY:Underground Queer Cinema Presents: Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Loop Bar for drinks and a screening of Andrew Haigh’s brilliant British queer film “Weekend”. \nPlot: After a drunken house party with his straight mates\, Russell heads out to a gay club. Just before closing time he picks up Glen but what’s expected to be just a one-night stand becomes something else\, something special. \nDirector: Andrew Haigh (2011)\nCast: Tom Cullen\, Chris New \n“Bittersweet\, achingly authentic\, and so intimate it almost feels invasive.” – The A.V. Club \n“There is also a need for stories that address the complex entanglements of love and sex honestly\, without sentiment or cynicism and with the appropriate mixture of humor\, sympathy and erotic heat. Weekend\, Andrew Haigh’s astonishingly self-assured\, unassumingly profound second feature\, is just such a film.” – The New York Times \n

SUMMARY:20 Loop FIN (Film Industry Network): March
DESCRIPTION:LOOP Project Space has long been an active supporter of emerging filmmakers. For the past 15 years\, we have provided a social cinema for independent filmmakers to crowdfund and screen webseries\, shorts and feature-length films. \nIn 2018\, LOOP’s Film Industry Nights launched as a site for monthly gatherings where filmmakers could form connections and nurture future collaborations. \nWe are inviting filmmakers\, cast and crew to part-take in our monthly film industry nights. Every 3rd Wednesday\, LOOP transforms into an industry hub with an eclectic program of ‘behind the doors’ cast and crew screenings from local filmmakers\, industry workshops and pitch parties. \nWhat does this mean for you?\nYou are invited to share with your cast and crew the opportunity to screen and review your short in our back room cinema (max capacity of 35). Every month we will develop a screening schedule of shorts which will screen on a rolling basis. \nCast and crew from each film will gather in our main bar to catch-up\, celebrate and mingle/network (if you so choose) with cast & crew from the other films. \nAdvantages:\n? Free venue hire!\n? An open\, atmospheric space for you and your crew to celebrate before & after screenings.\n? A chance to meet & network with others in the industry\n? Word of mouth promotion of your film\n? Opportunity to get industry feedback \nThe ‘behind closed doors’ screenings mean the screenings won’t be public\, you won’t hinder your chances of entering festivals\, finding distributors etc. Film industry nights will be promoted to LOOP’s existing film networks as ‘lucky-dip’ screenings and there will be no mention of film title/crew/director. It will remain up to the discretion of the director/producer as to who is invited into the screening. \nHave a cast\, crew and supporter base over 35? No worries\, we can do more than one screening of your film through the duration of the night. This is also an opportunity to get industry feedback from people you have met on the night (again at your discretion). \nWhat’s next?\n? Email LOOP’s arts curator at arts@looponline.com.au to request a date.\n? Invite cast\, crew and supporters to LOOP on the designated date from 6-9pm. Schedule to be confirmed by email.\n? Attend a tech check with LOOP’s technician on a Monday between 2-5pm\n? Email any catering requests\n? Drink\, meet & mingle for your cast & crew screening! \n
