Found soul music as a young teenager in the UK in the early 70’s when I started collecting vinyl. The vinyl collecting got put on hold during the 80’s and most of the 90’s due to family and career commitments. In mid 90’s started a new job that included plenty of international travel – and this coincided with resuming collecting vinyl and starting DJ’ing. I emigrated to Perth, Australia in 2000, although the international travel continued. I enjoy regular DJ gigs in the UK (Brighouse Ritz, Prestwich, Bury Town Hall, Radcliffe Civic) and Spain (Hitsville Soul weekender-9 yrs resident, Benidorm International Soul weekender) and all around Australia. My music taste embraces all genres of black music, as well as classic rock.

Growing up in the South East Suburbs of Melbourne in the 1990s and 2000s doesn’t provide a natural backdrop to collecting soul 45s.
Like other home-grown Aussie Soul Dj’s, my musical education had far more to do with what got played on PBS by the likes of Vince Peach and Samantha Goldie than what was big at Wigan or the other big Northern Soul Clubs of a bygone era.
Thus my collecting has been less driven by reviving the big sounds of yesteryear and more so by seeking the fresher records that resonate more closely with the here and now.
From my sets you can expect a shamelessly ‘across the board’ blend of soulful 45s, drawing inspiration from the classic Philly anthems through to the lesser heard underachievers.
Of particular interest to listeners may be the appalling quality of my technical DJ skills. From wide gaps between records to poor sound control, listeners can revel in the joy of my next botched attempt to seamlessly transition one 45 to the next.
It’s always a lot of fun!
