John Cameron Mitchell writes, directs and stars as Hedwig, an acid tongued transgender punk rocker from East Berlin. Upon fleeing her communist country with her fiancé, Sergeant Luther Robinson, Hedwig soon finds herself bitter, broke and then single in a trailer park in Arkansas. Hedwig recovers from the separation by picking up some “odd jobs” and returning to her first love of music by forming a rock band composed of Korean-born Army wives.

Through a blistering collage of rock songs, flashbacks, wisecracks, animation and anguish, Hedwig takes us on an unforgettable journey documenting her life, and the love who stole her heart and her songs.
