The workshop will help you brush up on your myth-busting knowledge and skills. While we will look at the facts, the stats and the stories, the strong focus will be to explore how to have constructive and reasoned conversations about asylum seekers with friends in family. You will also have an opportunity to have any questions you might have on asylum answered.

‘Preaching to the choir’ is a refrain many of us have often heard or said, especially in the area of asylum. However, while many of us may be the ‘converted’, most of us don’t feel equipped to explain to Uncle Bob why it isn’t illegal to seek asylum or know how to respond to Aunt Judy’s allegation that asylum seekers are queue jumpers (at least not without going red faced and jumping up and down). Meanwhile Bob & Judy aren’t listening and we’ve gotten nowhere. This Road to Refuge workshop aims to arm you with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to have constructive, reasoned conversations about asylum to friends and family.
