We are pleased to present our annual PROCESS event hosting the Dulux Study Tour recipients. This September we will explore the theme FILTER: beyond the curated snap and holiday artefact, how do travel experiences continue to influence, distill and disseminate architectural ideas back home, even after the holiday’s over?
CLAIRE SCORPO – Claire Scorpo Architects + Dulux Study Winner, 2017
CHRIS GILBERT – Archier + Dulux Sudy Winner, 2016
KATELIN BUTLER – ArchitectureAU Contributor + Houses magazine editor
The Dulux Study Award provides a pivotal early-career milestone that affords recipients an ‘opportunity-of-a-lifetime
FILTER offers three perspectives around how the coveted Tour, and other architectural adventures, have influenced the practice of architecture in Australia. Through the lens of travel, and alongside travel companions, what are the ideas that cross-pollinate across waters and stay with us well into everyday practice? Beyond the holiday snap, and sketch, travel forms part of the architect’s toolkit to design in their own backyard. One might think of our Grand Prix tradition, or Sir Roy Grounds’ Tour of Europe, and its influence on the design of NGV’s palazzo-style gallery. How do such eye-opening, exploratory experiences inform, expand and influence today’s designers’ worldviews and subsequent bodies of work? How do observations of built form, objects, pedagogy and culture encourage us to share, translate and filter ideas and thread with the culture and curation of architecture in Australia?
Please join us this month with recipients from both the 2016 and 217 Dulux Study Tour, as they describe their trips, findings & realisations, and of course… where to from here.
See you all at Loop on the 4th September!
