Having one’s own practice is a dream for some. After a rigorous degree in architecture, work experience, and registration under the belt, the idea of being your own boss is an enticing idea. Yet, the structures behind a successful venture may seem somewhat hazy, especially at the beginning when there are a mountain of things to set in place. How do practices run? How does one get projects through the door, and what are some sustainable ways of working?

How does one…. ‘architect’?

This month Process talks to different practices to understand how to set up – and maintain – shop. We will look at how businesses have been built, hybrid working models, collective resourcing, and transitioning between typologies.
