Documenting Hate: Charlottesville
In Documenting Hate, PBS Frontline and ProPublica investigate the white supremacists and neo-Nazis involved in the 2017 Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally. The event was chaotic and violent, amidst a backdrop of general passivity by the state, peaking on the day with a self-identified white supremacist ramming his car into a crowd of protesters, killing a young woman, Heather Heyer, and injuring 19 other people. This film examines the trajectory of this kind of politic and the kinds of people attracted to its place in modern times, by profiling some of the characters lurking in the background influencing it’s direction, away from the spotlight.
