Naomi Wang completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours with Distinction at RMIT University.
Since graduating she has exhibited in numerous galleries such as Metro Gallery, Span Gallery, West Space Gallery, Red Gallery, Glen Eira City Gallery, Platform Artist Group and Area Art Space.

She has also been shortlisted for art prizes such as the Metro 5 Art Award, Darebin La Trobe Art Prize, Toyota Community Spirit Gallery, R M McGivern Art Prize and the City of Banyule Works on Paper Art Prize.

Her work is influenced by Indian and Persian gardens and architecture. These gardens are formal and large in scale and symmetrically arranged around a central axis using rectangular shapes.  In addition the garden offers a metaphor of the greater world.

Imagery from floor plans, maps and decorative features are all included in her work. Despite their intended function they serve as a random selection of shapes, symbols and colour.  Each of them selected for their balanced compositional combinations of closed and open spaces.

Her current series is focused on the motivations for the creation of the Taj Mahal.  The building represents an incomparable commitment and devotion that inspires Naomi’s work in the series titled ‘A Monument to Eternal Love’.  The floor plans of the greater complex offer a great visual foundation to her paintings.

Opening night celebratory drinks Monday 8 April 6-7:30pm
