LASER HIGHWAY OXJAM
SYNTHWAVE // OUTRUN // RETRO ELECTRO // 80’S AND MORE FROM THE RETRO FUTURE TO FIGHT GLOBAL POVERTY
LIVE: Synthicide / Martiln
DJs: Matt Daemon / Zerotonine
Laser Highway takes over Loop Project Space and Bar once again to host Australia’s only night dedicated to the very best anything-with-the-word-wav
We are back with a vengeance in 2017 at a new venue, monthly schedule, opening hours, incredible sound, double the lasers, projection art, cocktail list, big screen multiplayer game space and an actual dancefloor (!!!) to transport you to your retro home away from home. We’ve prided ourselves on creating a radically inclusive alternative club night, to give you an experience that’s all about those thumping beats, synthesized basslines, the good times, a touch of nostalgia and camaraderie from your past, present and future friends that you haven’t yet met.
This August, we’re hosting our second annual OXJAM fundraiser in support of Oxfam Australia. Their work empowers communities ranging from indigenous Australians to the rest of the world to lift themselves out of poverty and secure access to clean food and water, emergency relief, basic infrastructure and human rights. 70% of all monies raised by the charity go directly to funding its various programs, so you can be sure that your money is going to the right place.
Whilst donations are certainly encouraged, they are by no means necessary to have a great time at Laser Highway as we are still running with our free entry policy. That being said, our musical acts (including myself -Z) have agreed to donate some or all of our performance fees to fight the good fight and we would love for you to join us.
Drawing inspiration from 80s sci-fi/horror soundtracks, disco, electro and new wave, SYNTHICIDE goes from darkness to brightness, heavy to light and cruising to dancing at the sweep of a filter.
Matt Tinkler, AKA Martiln, is a young electronic music producer and composer from Melbourne, Australia. With a constantly evolving sound and a focus on conceptual ideas, Martiln blends elements from a wide array of different musical genres into hard-hitting and synth-heavy tracks.
2016 saw Martiln complete his Bachelor of Music, release his first EP and single, as well as writeone new track a week for 52 weeks straight as part of Weekly Beats 2016. So far in 2017, Martiln has released a range of remixes and collaborations with both local and international artists, as well as a series of EPs containing remastered versions of tracks from his Weekly Beats 2016 collection.
Matt Daemon conjures a sonic pallette of nostalgiac 80s retro electro with darker brooding elements. Absolutely slaying the crowd during his last performance earlier this year, he returns to the Laser Highway decks to continue his onslaught of unsuspecting witnesses!
Zerotonine is the host, resident DJ and runs Australia’s first and only monthly club night dedicated to synthwave, outrun, electro, italo-disco, and more from the retro future: Laser Highway in Melbourne. As a labour of love, he is dedicated to providing a unique experience for music makers and fans alike.
A veteran DJ for over a decade playing too many genres internationally and at home in Australia, he is in love with arpeggiated basslines, warm synths, and driving drums; his style is inspired by 80’s movies, the Lamborghini Countach, boss fights, neon vectors, keytars, androids, reverb guitars, cosmic phenomena, bleeps and bloops. Expect a range of sonic styles to get your feet stomping and head rocking from all corners of the retro-verse.
