In the slums of Paraguay, more than 40% of children don’t finish school because their parents need them to work. A humble garbage picker – Cola – gets together with a local musician – Favio – to make instruments for the children of the slum. With no money for real instruments together they start to make instruments from trash – violins from oil drums, flutes from water pipes and guitars from packing crates. With the support of many in the slum, Cola and Favio slowly put together one of the world’s most unlikely orchestras. An orchestra made entirely made of garbage. They call it “The Recycled Orchestra”. Music arises and children find new dreams.

When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts. ‘Landfill Harmonic’ is a testimony to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit. Follow the ‘Recycled Orchestra’ as they go from playing local events to supporting Megadeth on tour, and prove that art – and hope – can come from the most unlikely of places.
