Join us on 22nd June for an evening of Virtual Reality as applied to clinical psychology, The Future of Smartphones and VR Demos from the recent graduates of an Academy Xi course.

VR as applied to Clinical Psychology – Les Posen
Les Posen is a Melbourne based clinical psychologist who has been treating anxiety disorders for 30 years.
He is one of the few local psychologists to be an early adopter of technologies in practice, and is currently on several advisory groups working with mental health professionals to better deliver treatments via innovative technologies.
In 2001, he became one of the first psychologist to employ VR in clinical work using the VFX3D headset, Windows XP, and proprietary software developed at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
More recently, he has been an advisor and beta tester for a Spanish startup which earnt a gong from the Rothenberg ventures first startup accelerator program.
Tonight. He’ll demo some of the environments he uses and discuss some of the advantages and pitfalls of VR in there clinical context.

The Future of Smartphones – Kruti Patel
Autonomous cars, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and many others are now constantly in media. But almost overlooked, there’s something else that is growing at a crazy speed; Smartphones! In the last 10 years, mobile technology has grown exponentially. In 2007 when the iPhone was launched followed by Android in 2008 we had no idea it was going to kill Nokia and Blackberry phones.
Since the beginning of smartphones, there has been incredible technological updates from better and smarter sensors to connectivity and now the new upcoming tech WiMAX. I will be discussing the upcoming technologies within the mobile world including Google Tango an augmented reality platform, location services, Miniscule, WiMAX and many more.
After receiving her degree in Computer Engineering from Gujurat University in India, Kruti began primarily developing software across the Android platform, dabbling in J2EE, JavaScript and Hibernate along the way. Kruti has been responsible for deploying a whole range of Android applications, specifically for mobile, throughout her time at Isobar.

HTC Vive demos from Academy Xi’s Virtual Reality Design Program
The Virtual Reality Design Program runs over 10 weeks and will provide attendees with the knowledge and practical skills to be able to make or break into this fascinating industry that is on the verge of burgeoning growth.
Led by highly experienced and well regarded experts in VR & AR and guided by a number of industry mentors students will solve a problem in a commercial application and also have a chance to create their very own VR experience.
