Film has the power to reach people across all cultures. The ARTillery Human Rights Arts Festival aims to do just that; tell authentic stories about one of the most urgent and relevant issues of our time, Human Rights.
As a part of the festivities, ARTillery is showcasing original films from local and international filmmakers that communicate the messages of equality, social justice and multiculturalism.
The event’s objective is to inspire discussion and get people actively involved in creating awareness of our basic human rights.
Including shorts by Joel P. Engardio, Sarah Catherine Firth, Molly George and William Head, the ARTillery Film Night will be featuring Nicholas Hansen’s ‘Breaking The News’, a recently-released documentary about two East Timorese journalists’ struggle to freely report the ongoing turmoil of their country.
ARTillery’s Film Night will also be presenting guest speakers from the Australian media industry to discuss their involvement in Human Rights focused film production and activism. The renowned Melbourne-based producer/director of ‘Breaking the News’, Nicholas Hansen, will be appearing as a special guest, joined by multi-award winning journalist Thom Cookes.
