MIKE CALLANDER – https://soundcloud.com/callander
Mike Callander is one of Australia’s most dynamic DJs, an innovative producer and remixer, and founder (alongside Christian Vance and Craig McWhinney) of the exciting new Australian record label, Haul Music.
Mike’s productions and remixes for his Haul Music imprint have enjoyed incredible feedback and support from a truly diverse range of DJs including Konrad Black, Agoria, Alex Smoke, Len Faki, Brothers Vibe, Deetron, Tim Paris, Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Tenaglia, Alexkid, Nick Warren, Deepchild, Gel Abril and Tomcraft.
In addition to his Haul Music output, Mike is currently collaborating with legendary Drum & Bass artist (and producer of Carl Cox’s forthcoming album) Davide Carbone, while at the same time mixing projects for Australian band The Queen’s Head and turntablist DJ Kuya, as well as regular collaborations with Australian favourite and ARIA chart-topper T-Rek.
As a DJ it was at his own techno club, Fokus, in Melbourne in 2001, that Mike achieved instant infamy for his genre-bending musical selections and an approach to DJing that was both versatile and unique. A decade later, Mike has performed and toured alongside just about every techno DJ to visit Australia, while in Melbourne holding long term residencies at a range of sought-after clubbing institutions such as Sunny, Nano, Ffour, and the infamous Honkytonks.
His mix CD for Honkytonks, entitled “The Last Dance” made its way into record stores across the world in 2006. Since then Mike has toured all across Australia and New Zealand, and as far afield as Berlin, Cologne, Prague, Warsaw, Los Angeles, Madrid and Malaysia, playing alongside artists as diverse as Mathew Jonson, Prins Thomas, Michael Mayer, Radioslave, Luciano, Booka Shade, Trentemoeller, Locodice, Matthew Dear, Stacey Pullen, Agoria (at Berlin’s Watergate), M.A.N.D.Y (both in Melbourne and Berlin), and Mr C (in Melbourne and Berlin).
Mike’s DJing has also earned accolades from countless touring international artists, with many labeling him one of Australia’s finest – most notably Get Physical’s DJ T., who invited Mike to play in Berlin at his anniversary event to celebrate 20 years of DJing.
Back in Melbourne, Mike plays at such infamous clubs as Revolver, where he also hosts the back room on Fridays and the “Haul Music Haus Party”, and at events such as Sneakerpeeps and The Likes Of You, as well as Festivals such as Rainbow Serpent, Stereosonic, Creamfields, Future Music and Summadayze.
Outside the clubs, Mike has made numerous appearances on radio such as Australia’s national youth radio station Triple J Mix Up (both as a guest and monthly resident DJ), and on Melbourne’s Kiss FM.
VOLTA – https://soundcloud.com/volta-2
Volta is an alias for Olya Slobodianyk (born 1985 in Kiev, Ukraine), Melbourne based tech house and minimal tech Dj.
Travelling the world as a journalist and a professional party lover, three years ago she has finally settled on Australian shores.
Her new home has given Volta a gift of being surrounded with most talented and inspiring Dj and producer friends.
With passion for what she does and a good sense of direction, Volta’s career in Australia took off on a forth gear. From being a complete stranger to the scene she moved to playing almost every underground outdoor and indoor techno gig in less than a year, regularly performing interstate and in New Zealand.
Alongside Australia’s techno heavy unit Muska, she created first minimal after hours at Melbourne’s iconic Lounge. Playing up to 5 hour versus and solo sets every Sunday morning has moulded her into unstoppable after hours specialist. At that time Volta completely fell in love with Melbourne and later on – with Sydney scene. And luckily for her this love went both ways.
It wasn’t long till Volta’s sound was recognized and welcomed overseas. On recent tour in Europe, she did 9 hour marathon with Subsonic’s main weapon Marcotix in Kater Holzig (Bar25) as well as playing Edit Festival in Netherlands.
Volta’s sexy intelligent sound, playful charisma behind the decks and professionalism topped up with being an absolute music junkie and simply loving her dance floors, have brought her to do opening and closing sets for STIMMING, MAX COOPER, GORGE, GUIDO SCHNEIDER, D.RAMIREZ and BORIS BREJCHA.
MORTISVILLE – https://soundcloud.com/mortisville
Emanating from the wild and depraved citadel of Brighton, Mortisville landed in Australia with the mischievous intent of bringing his city’s own debaucherous brand of speakeasy and Electro Swing to the Antipidies. ?Having witnessed the genre grow and flourish in his home town, Mortisville sought to recreate the 1920’s and 30’s madness in Australia. 2 years on, after rip-roaring sets at Rainbow, Shine On, Maitreya, Strawberry Fields, Wide Open Space, Culture Jam & countless huge Warehouse Party’s’, His dastardly mission has been an unbridled success. Mortisville has recently been confirmed for a heroic return to his home country with gigs set up at the legendary Secret Garden Party and Boom Town festivals.
Mortisville is now embarking on collaberations with a number prestigious artists including melbourne band The Woohoo Revue and many more to be revealed soon!
As a DJ Mortisville has embraced a genre that is constantly expanding, taking elements of balkan, breaks, dubstep and even drum and bass into new and exciting realms. The one thing you can be sure of from a Mortisville set is that it will have you up and dancing before you can say swing it!
Mortisville is the co founder of Hellzapoppin’ a new and successful speakeasy based in Melbourne, that couples Electro Swing and burlesque with International Acts such as White Mink and Sound Nomaden and Melbourne Live bands such as Woohoo Revue 8 Foot Felix and Tek Tek.
TIM HARVEY – https://soundcloud.com/tim-harvey
Tim has enjoyed an interesting and diverse involvement in the healthy Melbourne electronic music scene beginning with the legendary environmental crew Traceplant. Working with a number of different crews in the following years it wasn’t until around 2005 that he connected with a festival that would become his passion and home for a long time to come.
For the past eight years Tim has been the Marketing Director of the internationally recognised Rainbow Serpent Festival. He has seen the festival develop gradually from a predominantly trance festival of around 5,000 patrons to today’s unique combination of music, art, performance, spiritual education and healing which attracts around 15,000 people from all over the planet.
Recently he has been contracted to manage the marketing and publicity department for the 2012 Solar Eclipse festival in Cairns and regularly consults on social media and marketing for a number of other companies, music festivals and record labels.
Tim still likes to DJ as often as possible and his sets represent everything fun, funky and driving in electronic music and never fails to get the dance-floor moving.
