Allotropy! is an experimental pop-up string quartet that plans to appear in unexpected places around Melbourne city. We will perform our spin on some Bach Contrapuncti, some Vaughan Williams, Philip Glass and a new work for string quartet “Sirens”, written for us by Melbourne Composer Evan Lawson, adapted from one of his earlier works for flutes, clarinet and voice.

During the performance, you will also be treated to some video loops curated by Jasmin Bardel.

Allotropy! is
Isabel Hede – violin
Kat Tsyrlin – violin and viola
Beatrix Pickett – viola and violin
Luke Severn – Cello

The members of Allotropy! studied at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), The University of Melbourne and Monash University. They met through their study and professional engagements. All members have extensive performance experience in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts in Melbourne, and other cities around Australia and internationally.

Our passion for doing something different with music performance is the thread that brought us all together, and is partly why we all hit it off so well from the first rehearsal! The other reasons are that we all like Isabel’s infectious laugh, Bea’s home grown vegetables, Luke’s renditions of any tune on just about any instrument, and Kat’s silly ideas that we think might actually work.

Stay around after the show to meet with the performers and share some food and drink with us.
