THE AUSTRALIAN GUITAR DUO

AUSTRALIAN GUITAR DUO:The Australian Guitar Duo are one of Australia’s most dynamic and exciting guitar duos. They began playing together during their first year of studies at the Australian National University School of Music, where they were studying with the renowned Australian guitarist and pedagogue Timothy Kain. In 2004 they both graduated from the Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours.

In 2003 the duo recorded a recital for the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s Classic FM (Australia’s only national classical music radio station), which was met with high acclaim when broadcast in 2004. Later that year they were awarded Second Prize in the chamber music division of the Australian Guitar Competition. Since that time, The Australian Guitar Duo have performed throughout Australia, and have given recitals in the New York Guitar Duo Festival at The Monkey, an important venue for guitarists.

2008 will see The Australian Guitar Duo meet again for a series of concerts which will take them through Southern France, Granada, Barcelona, several cities in Australia and the U.S.

Rupert Boyd
One of the most talented guitarists of his generation, Australian born Rupert Boyd is forging a career as an international performing artist. He has performed throughout the United States, Spain, Italy, France and Australia, and among numerous prizes is the recipient of the Andrés Segovia Award from the Manhattan School of Music.

In 2004 Rupert graduated with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Music degree at the Australian National University School of Music, where he studied with Australia’s renowned guitarist Timothy Kain. Later that year he moved to the United States to undertake a Master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with David Leisner. In 2008, Rupert completed studies with Benjamin Verdery at the Yale University School of Music, from which he received the Artist Diploma degree.

Rupert has performed at some of New York’s most prestigious classical music venues, including The 92nd Street Y, Bargemusic, The New York City Classical Guitar Society and The Monkey. In addition to winning the Andrés Segovia award from the Manhattan School of Music, Rupert was a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition and winner of the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, which resulted in a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with orchestra, conducted by Lawrence Leighton Smith.

The Beekeeper Concert

The Australian Guitar Duo are an internationally acclaimed classical guitar duo comprised of Jacob Cordover and Rupert Boyd. Performing an interesting collection of guitar duos, the programme includes compositions by some of Australia´s pre-eminent composers as well as works from around the world. The Australian Guitar Duo will be performing in Australia, following a succesfull concert tour of France and Spain.
